Chapel on the Prairie is one of my all time favorite photos. I know, I have alot! This image was taken in western Kansas along the old Santa Fe Trail. It was taken about 30 minutes before the sun came up and the lighting conditions were just about as perfect as they could be. I use this image as an example in my classes, lectures and workshops of a photo with perfect tonal values. In other words there are no areas in the image which are under or over exposed. The light is perfect!
As photographers we constantly seek to manage the light in an image. Here I didn’t have to. I just had to record it. This old church is at least 125 years old and it looks like it. I had to obtain special permission to shoot here and because of that I will not divulge the exact location. I have other images from other viewpoints of the church, if you are interested.
