This is my memorial to all who have served their nation proudly. I come from a family of veterans and, along with my wife we have made it a priority to serve those who have served. This photo was taken in mid May 2011 at about 11:30pm. My wife Cindy and I were in Washington D.C. leading an Honor Flight trip. Honor Flight is designed to honor WWII veterans by taking them (from wherever they live) to Washington D.C. to see their memorial. Our group combined the trip with a visit to our Representatives and Senators at the U.S. Capitol. We also visited many of the monuments and memorials in Washington.
The image was taken in a walkway where people usually walk during the day. I set up my tripod and Canon 5D Mark II camera. The lens was a 24-105 set at f8 at ISO 400. The image was exposed for 2 minutes as I walked through the exposure with two flash strobes illuminating the wall to make the names more readable. It’s possible to walk through a long exposure image if you keep moving and are wearing something dark. The orange in the sky is due to the antiquated light system in our nations capitol. They put off an orange type of glow.
This is one of my best selling images and I make a donation to veteran’s organizations from the profits on this image.
