Union Station Reflection was taken in late June at Kansas City’s Union Station The image shows the setting sun and the Bloch fountain in front of this Kansas City iconic building. This is a great print on metal!
I arrived on a HOT and STEAMY Sunday night! Can I repeat that. It was seriously HOT (95*) and STEAMY (at least 95% humidity). The Bloch fountain in front of Kansas City’s Union Station has colored lights and multi functions to the fountains. It’s nothing to have the fountain shoot cannon shots of water at you!
I spent about 30 minutes surveying the area to set up my sunset shot. I was very glad for some high drifting clouds. The shot was taken with a Canon 5DSR and a Canon 16-35 lens. My focus point was about 45% into the foreground so as to blur the reflection but have the fountain, building and sunset sharp. I had a polarizer filter on the lens. The settings were ISO 100, Aperture f22, SS 0.8 seconds. I also used a soft 3 stop graduated ND filter to help darken down the sky while keeping the foreground light. The aperture of f22 and shutter speed of 0.8 seconds helps create a silky effect of the water in the fountain.
